Lisanne Meinerzhagen
Engineer Vibration protection and monitoring
How did you come to join us?
I studied civil engineering at TU Munich and realized during my master’s program that traditional civil engineering wasn’t quite what I wanted to do. Luckily, there was the field of structural dynamics, which I really enjoyed. We then went on an excursion with the Chair of Structural Mechanics to Müller-BBM. I was thrilled to see where my studies could lead me. Afterwards, I applied proactively for a working student position. That was in 2015. Two years later, I was offered a permanent position.
What exactly do you do at MBBM?
I work in the field of structural dynamics. That means we measure vibrations and prepare expert reports on vibration protection. This mainly concerns buildings, sensitive installations inside buildings, and construction sites located near railway lines, industrial plants, or other building sites. The vibrations caused by these can lead to structural damage, health issues for people, operational disruptions, or failures in IT systems, MRI scanners, or microscopes. And we’re here to make sure none of that happens.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The great thing about my work is that it’s very independent. It often consists of many small projects, but I handle these projects from start to finish myself. I also manage the projects on my own. I personally go out to conduct vibration measurements. That can be on a green field – ideally with sunshine and a mountain view. But it can also be in all kinds of buildings, like the attics of churches. It’s always interesting to see where the job takes you. I also analyze the measurement data completely independently. I write the report, including recommendations for measures, and even model buildings.
What I particularly appreciate is the small-scale nature of the projects and the autonomy, which makes me very flexible – something that benefits my family life greatly. I was (…) on parental leave, and now I’m working part-time as a parent. I work fewer hours than before, but I do exactly the same work. I manage projects, have the same responsibilities, and picked up exactly where I left off.
What makes Müller-BBM stand out for you?
Above all, the diversity of projects and areas of work, as well as the openness of colleagues and the flexibility that makes family life easier.
