Airborne and structure-borne noise contributions to interior noise in vehicles

Noise in the vehicle interior can generally be caused by airborne noise contributions and/or structure-borne noise contributions. Airborne noise contributions are caused by airborne noise sources located either outside (e.g. rolling noise, fans) or inside the vehicle (e.g. ventilation fans). Structure-borne noise contributions are generated by components that produce dynamic forces. Vibrations within the vehicle are caused by elastic or rigid connections to the body shell. These vibrations are radiated by the vehicle assemblies, resulting in airborne noise.
