Soil is an essential component of our ecosystem and fulfils numerous functions that are indispensable to life on earth. It serves as a habitat for numerous organisms, stores water and nutrients, and acts as a filter for pollutants. At the same time, soil is under serious threat from human activities such as agriculture, industry and urbanisation.
