3rd Symposium on “Environmental Aspects of Local Rail Transport” at the headquarters of the Müller-BBM Group.

Climate protection, sustainability and environmental transparency are increasingly presenting new challenges for local transport operators. Technical requirements, legal regulations and internal organisational processes are becoming ever more intertwined. Environmental issues are taking on growing importance – not only in terms of compliance with regulations, but also as a basis for investment decisions, operational procedures and maintenance strategies.

Against this backdrop, the 3rd symposium on “Environmental Aspects of Local Rail Transport” will take place on 18th June 2026 at the headquarters of the Müller-BBM Group in Planegg. The event provides a forum for analysing current regulatory and practical frameworks and discussing specific options for action in the day-to-day operations of local transport operators.

The focus is on practical approaches to systematically implementing environmental requirements. Topics covered include methodological procedures, legal frameworks, and measurement, assessment and documentation tools that help companies to present environmental impacts in a transparent manner and make informed decisions. This is complemented by examples from planning, operations and maintenance, as well as the use of digital solutions.

A key topic of the conference is the question of how environmental requirements can be meaningfully integrated into operational and strategic processes, going beyond mere compliance with regulations. Drawing on concrete case studies from infrastructure and operational projects, the conference will demonstrate how environmental objectives can be reconciled with economic and organisational requirements.

Christine Seuffert and Dr Alexander Mendler, two experts from Müller-BBM Industry Solutions, will also be contributing to the conference programme with specialist presentations and sharing their practical experience in engineering and consultancy.

The symposium is aimed at specialists and managers from local transport operators, municipalities, public authorities, and planning and engineering firms. It also offers a concise opportunity for professional development for staff working in operations, planning, engineering and environmental management.
