Eva Siebenlist

Consulting Engineer Air/EIA

How did you come to join us?

During my studies, I worked at the Senate Department for Environment, Transport, and Climate Protection in Berlin. There, I was involved in air quality planning. That’s when I realized this is an area that really fascinates me. In fact, it was my colleagues at the Senate Department who introduced me to Müller-BBM. By coincidence, there was an open position in Berlin, and I’ve been with Müller-BBM since 2019.

What exactly do you do at MBBM?

As air pollution control consultants, we prepare expert reports for authorities, industry, businesses, farmers, and even private individuals. Essentially, we act as a kind of interface between the protected entity—this could be humans, bodies of water, or nature—and the plant operator. Our goal is to protect people as best as possible from pollutants while ensuring that the plant operator can implement their planned project. What’s exciting about this work is that you get to know an incredible variety of facilities. We don’t just look at heating plants and determine chimney heights; we also inspect bakeries, various agricultural operations, sewage treatment plants—basically anything where emissions can occur in some form.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

In what other role do you have the opportunity to look into all the process flows of industrial plants or agricultural operations and see them on-site? That’s incredibly exciting and fascinating!

What advice would you give to potential applicants?

I would advise applicants not to give up too quickly at the beginning because there’s a lot of knowledge coming at you all at once. You have to adjust to each facility individually. What really helps is the active exchange with colleagues who guide you because they’re familiar with it. They know it’s a lot at first. But give yourself time, stay curious, and stick with it. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ve learned after two, four weeks, or a year – and how much you actually know.
