Compression waves

A pressure wave, compression wave or density wave or contraction wave is a longitudinal wave in a fluid or solid. Transient fluctuations in pressure within a medium propagate as a wavefront. A fluctuation in pressure is accompanied by a fluctuation in density. For this reason, the waves are referred to as both pressure waves and density waves.
