Silencer

A mostly passive component capable of extracting energy from incident sound while, at the same time, obstructing the flow of a medium (e.g. air, exhaust gases, etc.) through it as little as possible. Depending on their design and mode of operation, silencers are categorised into different types, such as absorption and resonator silencers, or baffle and duct silencers. Acoustic assessment can be carried out under laboratory conditions, for example using the method described in ISO 7235.
