On 8th May 2024, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria hosted the IHK Environmental Dialogue under the motto "Reduction of pollutants – The economy acts".

In the workshop on immission control issues, moderated by Walter Grotz (in the picture on the left), managing director of Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH, the effects of the amendment to the TA Luft and other administrative regulations, the effects of the amendment to the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and the EU air quality standard were discussed.

In this context, the co-speaker Hermann Blomeyer (top right in the picture), Head of Environment at Flughafen München GmbH, outlined Munich Airport's measures for monitoring air quality in his presentation. According to Mr Blomeyer, the currently measured immission values already comply with the strict immission values proposed by the EU Commission for the year 2030, some of which are less than half the current limit values.

Julian Rubach (bottom right in the picture), Chairman of the Bavarian Association of Environmental Protection Engineers AGU Bayern, gave an insight into the monitoring activities of an environmental protection engineer and the effects he expects from the amendment to the Industrial Emissions Directive. He believes that operators and the authorities will face additional challenges here, particularly as a result of the mandatory environmental management systems.

In the subsequent forum, measures to simplify and accelerate authorisation procedures were discussed, among other things. For example, dispensing with complex authorisation procedures and the subsequent monitoring of facilities without major environmental impacts could free up resources that are needed elsewhere.
