Mini projectors are getting smaller and more affordable – and promise a big-screen movie experience right at home. But how good are these devices really?
The Swiss television magazine “Kassensturz” (SRF) asked for a comparison of eight affordable mini-projector models. The tests were supervised by the Test Group at Müller-BBM Industry Solutions. The result: There are clear differences in quality—both in terms of picture and sound.
While many devices stand out for their smart, streaming-style user interfaces, there is a wide variation in sound quality. Some mini projectors offer surprisingly balanced sound for their size, while others sound tinny or simply loud.
There are also clear differences in picture quality: resolution, color reproduction, and motion handling vary significantly. Only objective, scientifically rigorous tests can determine which devices actually meet cinema standards.
The test makes it clear: Price and format alone are no guarantee of quality – picture and sound are what determine the user experience.
