Safety Management System

All operational areas covered by the Major Accidents Ordinance must have a Safety Management System (SMS) in place. This obligation is set out in Section 8 of the Major Accidents Ordinance, and Annex III of the Major Accidents Ordinance sets out the principles for an SMS. An SMS in accordance with the Major Accidents Ordinance meets, in its fundamental requirements, the general requirements for management systems. This means that it must have a process-oriented approach, a structure comprising policies and documentation, and review cycles that ensure continuous improvement and adaptation processes.
