Odour grid measurement

A method for measuring odour immissions within a defined assessment area, using qualified human assessors over a sufficiently long period to be representative of the meteorological conditions at that location. The inspections are carried out at measurement points distributed in a grid pattern across the assessment area, with four measurement points defining one assessment area. For the assessment areas, the odour frequency per hour – a parameter for odour immissions – is determined on the basis of the assessors’ odour perceptions. The sources of the odours under investigation may be located either within or outside the assessment area. The grid inspections are carried out in accordance with DIN EN 16841-1 in conjunction with Annex 7 of TA Luft and VDI 3940 Part 3.
